You're Invited To Serve...2012

 Friends and Neighbors:

For years now we've been wrestling with keeping the right balance at Christmas time. We feel that the right way to keep Christmas is with Christ-like service. Last year we opened our home on Christmas Eve for several service projects. Many people requested to do the same this year and we are pleased to have service projects for Utah Co. Head Start Program, Kids On The Move, and Family Support and Treatment Center. Together these organization serve over 1,000 children who struggle developmentally, financially, or are in unsafe living situations.

We are inviting you and your family to our home to join our family for a day of service on Christmas Eve.

Here's how it will work. Our home will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for folks to come as their schedules allow. We will have quilting projects, knifty knitting of hats, ABC books, phonics learning aids, hand puppets, jingle bell boxes, bean bags, and other service opportunities. We'll also have piles of sugar cookies to decorate and enjoy. Most importantly, we'll have the good company of each other.

We'll plan no meal but encourage folks to bring something to share (appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, chips, crackers and a cheese ball, that fruit cake from Aunt Enid, whatever).
If you're able to bring any of the following items, it will help the organizations we are supporting this year:
Gently used or new children's books,
Canning lids or juice lids
Empty baby formula cans with the lid
Old magazines
Quilts (finished or unfinished)
Knitted hats for all ages

If you would like to donate some of these things but can't come on Christmas Eve, we will have a container at our front door where you can leave items.

This has been a hard year for many of us but we have much for which to be thankful. We hope that you have the time and the inclination to gather with friends on Christmas Eve. Feel free to share this invitation with other families who might appreciate the offer. And please let me know if you are planning on coming. Also if you have other ideas for service, we'd like to hear about them, especially if you have something in mind for the younger kids.

Merry Christmas,

Gove and Nickie Allen
