Mindfulness Research...

Here is a link to the 2011 Volume 12 of Contemporary Buddhism in a PDF form. This issue is completely dedicated to mindfulness Based Stress Reduction/Cognitive Therapy.

I have read several of the articles now and if your interested in bringing a greater level of peace into your life and practice then I suggest reading this journal.  :)

I am interested in the term Dukkha, which basically means the suffering we put ourselves into with thoughts that aren't correct but we think they are especially if we feel an emotion with the thoughts. Then I heard about the 4 noble truths which this journal also addresses and that was interesting. I love using or trying to use loving kindness meditation and there is a nice article about this too. Plus much more.

60 Minutes Special on Mindfulness - Anderson Cooper

It was August 2014 and I was visiting Seattle with my daughters. We had spent the day sightseeing at my old stomping grounds of my childhood and we decided to go to the beach just west of Ballard.
It was at this beach that I learned I was accepted into the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course in SLC lead by Vicky Kennedy Overfelt.

That acceptance started the beginning of several new path opening up for me to enter.  Below is the link for the 60 Minutes production on mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn.

I am now working the steps to become certified as an instructor. Maybe I will help others but mostly I want to help myself which will indeed help others on their journey as well.

This is what i was needing...

I'm sitting in our rv, Gove has gone to bed and I'm watching our teens being children as they are out catching fire flies and i am listening to the amazing sounds of the Limberlost.
The kids just brought me 7 fire flies and are back out to find other creatures of the night. Kind of like in The Girl of the Limberlost.

Today we stopped at the James Townsend store and found some treasures. Tia a drum, Eli blue linen breeches, Gove grey linen breeches and short bodices for Beth and myself plus a new fife, coins, buttons. We left the festival brochure and Ryan gave us a tour of the whole factory. We were very fortunate to see how the felt hats are stretched.

Tonight is what i needed...nature.

Gene Stratton Porter's cabin home

We have arrived just after closing yet able to walk to the home of my favorite author.
It's almost 10pm and our teens are out side catching fire flies.
The Limberlost woods are as noisy as Gene discribed them in her wonderful book Freckles.

I am endeavoring to cause no harm...just for today

As I walk the treadmill each morning, I watch a 30 minutes segment from The Great Courses. Currently it's Practicing Mindfulness: An Introduction to Meditation.  Had I not taken the 8 week course on mindfulness based stress reduction I think I'd have a hard time believing this type of stuff. Thank goodness I now believe in the power of slowing down and being mindful for a few minutes.
I have not heard much about Buddha's teachings but I like these ideas:

Five Aspirations... the principle of causing no harm

1. I will endeavor not to harm sentient beings.
2. I will endeavor not to steal.
3. I will endeavor no to misuse sexuality.
4. I will endeavor not to use false speech.
5. I will endeavor not to consume toxins.

Wholesome thoughts: diminish suffering (dukkha) and foster happiness and freedom.
Unwholesome thoughts or unskilled thought: is one that is not conducive to freedom and happiness but rather promotes suffering. (dukkha)

And somehow this is tied to an idea called not-self.  Which I believe has something to do with disconnecting from ego's thinking and hearing the real spiritual self...I suppose that is enlightenment?

I like striving to slow down and be mindful for 10 to 20 minutes, to walk quietly for 10 minutes, to try and stay awake during a body scan, and to practice loving kindness meditation in the hopes of something positive happening somehow.
